Islip Bowling Club was established in 1921 and is located in the “chocolate box” village of Islip near Kettering and has something to offer players of all ages and abilities.
Islip Bowls Club provides lawn green bowls facilities to members of the community of Islip and surrounding towns and villages. We play matches about 2 times per week, normally on a Thursday evening and either Saturday or Sunday afternoons and the green is open on Tuesday evenings between 6 – 8 pm for anyone to come and have a go and for practice.
Club and County competitions are available to those who wish to take part.
During the whole year, short mat indoor bowling is available in the Village Hall which is next door to the Green and is very popular in the winter when outdoor bowling is not possible. Shortmat Bowling is held indoors in the Village Hall in Islip on Tuesday mornings from XX to XX.
Most members rely on the bowls club for their summer activities, keeping active and healthy, and maintaining their social contacts. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly and welcoming club, open to all.
It is important for local people to keep active and engaged in a social atmosphere which fosters mutual support. It's a great place to come and be involved in the community and is particularly beneficial to those living on their own. The club was founded in 1921 on land given to the village to commemorate the sacrifices made in WWI.
We have a social side to the club with our inter-club Tansley Cup and Bill Hawkins Trophy. We have a Quiz with Fish & Chip supper to start the season, a Presentation night with Quiz and Fish & Chips and a Race Night each year. We raise funds with two jumble sales each year - all monies go towards keeping the green; green!
